Shares of Natural Grocers by Vitamin Cottage saw a significant increase in after-hours trading following the company's announcement of a special dividend alongside its fourth-quarter earnings. The stock rose 6.3% to $13.61, maintaining its upward trajectory this year with a 40% increase.
The Colorado-based retailer declared a special cash dividend of $1 per common share, in addition to its regular quarterly dividend of 10 cents per share. President Kemper Isely expressed confidence in the company's future outlook, citing strong operating trends and a solid financial position.
Natural Grocers by Vitamin Cottage also reported a 7.6% increase in fourth-quarter sales, reaching $295.1 million. Daily average comparable sales experienced a 6.9% growth, driven by a 3.6% rise in transactions and a 3.3% increase in the average transaction.
For the quarter ending on September 30, net income more than doubled to $5.9 million, or 26 cents per share, compared to $2.2 million, or 9 cents per share, during the same period last year.
